Just recently swictched drive to Benq1640 and noticed that it rips a lot faster than my TDK 840G. Not complaining or anything but just wondering if this affects the quality somehow.

i've gone from 1x to 4x, and i haven't seen much of a difference.

I wouldn't say quality, but definitely playability. I always burn at 4x or slower and never a problem with a picture that freezes, skips and pauses. Great media + slow burns = less chance for problems later on down the road.

I believe Prelude22 is asking about "ripping" speed; not "burning" speed.

Prelude22, that is a good question. From my experience I moved from a "riplocked" burner that read at about 1X and took about 45 minutes to rip to a Lite-on 167T that can rip up to 16X but generally averages about 8X and rips any movie in generally 5-10 minutes max.

I have not noticed any difference from the "slow" ripped movies compared to the "fast" rip movies.

@laboy, I stand corrected, just need to read a little slower. Thanks friend, have a good day.
