Hi, I got a swap magic 3.6 back in July. Someone on this site said that alcohol 120% was the program for backing up CD and DVD PS2 games. I downloaded it and backed up all my CD games perfectly. I then purchesed Alcohol 120% because I liked the program. Anyways, I just got a DVD burner (Fantom Drives Ext. Unit) and a pack of 100 DVD-R's (RiDATA 8X DVD-R's). I first tried to back up Arc the Lad: The Twilight Spirits. Alcohol saved it to my HD, no problem. Then I burned it to a DVD-R. It said it had no problems. I then tested it and when I got to the Swap Magic screen, I switched discs, pressed X and the screen went black. The game never loaded. I tried using special boot (pressed Square), nothing. I tried to back up The Suffering. Same thing. It plays all my CD's and the games (DVD's) that I got in Thailand just fine, so it is something I am doing. Could anyone tell me what I am doing wrong. Thanks in advanced.
Matthew Jackson
P.S: I checked the first 25 pages for a topic like this that used alcohol but I didn't find anything. I also used the search engine but didn't find anything. If this has been posted before and I missed it, I'm sorry. Thank you for reading this very long post.

The first thing i would try is another program
Just for kicks try DVD Decrypter
here is a tutorial (also one for alcohol 120%)
http://home.earthlink.net/~moderator/id3.html http://home.earthlink.net/~moderator/id4.html
Then may want to try different media
Your PS2 may not like those for some reason.
What other mod do you have, other than Swap Magic
Swap Magic alone will not play back ups. (slidecard, fliptop?)
I backed up The Suffering with no problem at all
works just fine with nothing special to do.

Cretin computer"s can not handle Alcohol 120% or Nero
DVD Decrypter works great
it doesnt really matter what program you use
you have to find out what program is right for your pc
Alcohol 120% works good on my pc
nero it doesnt like it at all

Hello again. Sorry, I forgot to mention that I use the slide card.
Just an update. I used DVD Decrypter, And it did not burn the first
time. second time I burned it, It played but was really glitchy. I
turned it off and loaded it again and it did not play (same
problems as before). I then tried it again with Alcohol 120%. Played
the first time (glitchy, of course), didn't run the second time. So I have come to the conclusion that it is getting on the disc, but my
DVD-Rs stink. What type would you guys (and girls) recommend? And
how much do they cost on average?
Thanks all,
Matthew Jackson

There are a different variety of what kinda media you can get. Here in the UK, it's only £5 (About $12) for a 25 pack of Ritek G05 discs, Ive never had any problems with these.

Those are Virtual Drives, and they're installed for a reason.
I'm too lazy to go into the whole story of why those are handy...any else care to enlighten the guy? i just can't be bothered atm.

Sure thing.
Virtual Drives emulate disc image files as if.. it were tricking the
PC into thinking a disc has inserted.
eg.
If you have a PC game on your hard drive, in the form of a disc image (ISO for example) and you "mount" it onto the virtual drive, the PC thinks it is the disc that has been inserted. And it is as if the disc has been inserted, there is no difference. The PC installation menu or whatever comes up.

yeah, me either
I have used DVD Decrypter for years and never had a
problem burning games. It is simply the best out there
right now in my opinion.
