Alright... lately my PS2 has been really slow to read my disks... PSX, PS2, DVDs, whatever... it takes nearly 5 minutes to read it. I fixed it once by plugging in a loose cable, but now that's not the problem... i tried cleaning it, checked connections, all the stuff. what could be wrong with it?

I also have a similar problem. Whenever I play backup copies, my loading time can be extremly long. Sometime it is just a bit slower to get to the game and you still can play, but sometimes I have to wait 10 minutes and there is still nothing going on with the music stopping and starting back every now and then.

Has anyone ever experienced anything similar?

Not that all authentic games play perfectly....

When you have the slow load times you can
always try rebuilding the game, or just reburning it.
That usually solves and problems i get, which is rare.
or just use better media if you are using cheap stuff

As far as your PS2 playing everything slow, If you cleaned
and adjusted the laser already. Those are the only solutions i have.

i'm not talking about ripped games & stuff, i'm talking everything (i didn't know you could burn PS2 games! O_O') it takes several minutes every time... i need a quick diagnosis, since my PS2's warranty has been invalidated (read above) so i can fix it myself...

The only thing I would think could help would be to air the thing out. If its running hot that would slow it down a bit.

Yes, and it is very simple once you do it once or twice
DVD Decrypter, a DVD burner, and some quality DVD's
as long as you have your PS2 modded to play back ups
(fliptop and Swap Magic or a mod chip)

^^^ yeah, it does get very hot, but only after hours of play, or if i leave it on acidentally.

^^ i thinbk that's the problem, wear and tear... it's nearly 4 years old now. i've had it since november 0f '01. last time ii opened it up it was like a 1960's supercomputer- dusty as a chinchilla. i should take a look... hopefully i can get some pics of it and post them herefor evry1 to look at to diagnose. but , i think that the driver cable has come 1/2way unplugged again. i dunno.
