I downloaded a divx file with Azureus to my hard drive which plays perfect (sound and video are on synch) when I play it thru Windows Media Player.

However when I burn it to a CD using NERO Burning Rom 6, the audio and video are on sync at the begining of the movie but slowly go out of sync as the time elapses. I guess the problem is with the burning because I can watch the movie from my computer with no problems at all. I choose New Video CD while starting Nero and drag the file into the recording area and burn the CD with no problem. However the problems start while I watch the movie on my dvd player.

Does someone know how to fix this problem

If you search on PAL TO NTSC and AUDIO OUT OF SYNC on this board you should find a bunch of ways to convert from .AVI to dvd avoiding sync issues. My particular favorite uses DGPulldown. Mainly because I already own TMPGEnc Plus so I don't have to buy anything else and it seems to work pretty well. There are other solutions too. Anyway, the
main trick is to avoid changing the framerate in the video during conversion. Here's a link to the DGPulldown guide:

Well, you are not simply burning your MPEG4 AVI to CD - you are converting (transcoding) it to VCD, which is MPEG1.
VCDs suck; instead of high-res on 1 CD you get low-res on 2 or more CDs.
Sounds like you are converting 24FPS AVI to PAL (25FPS) VCD. If the AVI uses VBR MP3 audio you could encounter these problems...
Dunno the solution, maybe somebody does in the proper forum?
