It seems no file compression program I've ever used works without glitches. So when I need to burn a long movie on dvd can't I just use a dvd-r(w) 9.4gb rather than the typical 4.7gb to burn them? I've tried dvdremaster and dvd2onex before and none seemed to give a result that looks like a perfect copy of the original. So if Idon't compress can't I still burnt he movie on a bigger gig dvd-r?

Hi there,

Yes, it's possible to use a tool like DVD Decrypter (DVD Ripper) and making a 100% image quality copy on your HD.

Then you can burn it to 1 x Dual Layer media and the quality is 100% since no compression was used.

Why are people copying / compressing videos to burn on DVD5 (Single Layer Media) ?

The answer is simple:

1 x DVD5 can cost you from $0,25 to $0,99 each

1 x DVD9 are still VERY expensive, the cheapest I have seen not long ago were $9.99canadian EACH !

I always saym if you are a quality freak, buy the original at WaliMart :)

Thanks for the feedback. And what would you say is a good dvd burning software? I've tried some freewares like YuBurner and it didn't work, the resulting dvd was just empty. I tried the trial for fast dvd copy too but the program crashed before I could burn it. I heard popcorn and toast are good burners but I really dont want to pay that much for anything unless I've tried it out beforehand. What would you recommend?

Hi there,

I own every software VSO has created up to now.

Just check my signature block :)

I am personally very pleased with the VSO suite.

Doesn't mean it's the best, doesn't mean it's way better than others.

It's just a personnal choice.

It works great, gives me great results, I'm a happy customer !
