hi,

What is the quickest way to split a small mpeg file eg. 300MB, without having to re-render it all again. Is it possible to quickly chop off say 2-3 minutes from the end (like cropping a picture?)

I have sony vegas but this takes ages to load->edit->render, is there a faster way?

thanks in advance

If it doesn't have to be super-accurate, TMPGEnc will do it. If it's
mpeg2 then you want to get TMPGEnc Plus. You can download a trial version here: http://www.pegasys-inc.com/en/download/tp.html

First time you use it, it's a good idea to set Environment and VFAPI
options. See the guide for it in the Guides section here on Afterdawn.

But basically to save a slice of mpg you open the program and hit Cancel to get rid of the wizard. Then in File Menu select Mpeg Tools, Merge and Cut Tab. Load a file in the dialog, select Edit, and use the slider
to select start and end points of the clip you want to write to disk.

Thanks for the help MilesAhed

I have downloaded TMPGEnc plus to try the method you suggested - everything is ok with the "merge & cut" page, but after I have added the file to the list and click "edit" tmpenc freezes?
If I load a very small file, ie. 2MB it works ok and then after that I can load the larger files, but I don't know why its crashing.

I looked through some faq posts on this site and they said change priorites of items in the "environment" section but this didn't seem to help?
I just have to remember to load a tiny file first or it freezes up
Any suggestions?

Thanks again

I haven't run into that. Have you also changed the VFAPI settings?
If TMPGEnc isn't working for you then you might try VirtualDubMod.

btw what flavor of Windows are you running?
