Question about ripping Gamecube games!

Now correct me if I am wrong but are you able to rip GC games just like you would say PS2 games?

Just pop the game in ur DVD burner and fire up dvd decryptor and rip away or there a special procedure?

Of course I would only be making backup's of games I own.

No, a normal CD and DVD are read from the inside out, however a GC disc is read from the outside in, so only the Gamecube can read a disc, thats why when you rip an ISO you need to stream it to your PC using either the Phantasy Star Online method or others like Action Replay method, etc.
