I have accepted (volunteered to do) a small video editing job for my wife's organization. I am currently taking 3/4" video tapes (lectures) produced by her headquarters org and copying them onto a DVCAM tape and adding some local information on the end of the tape, readying them for broadcast by the local public broadcasting cable system here in Austin.

The tapes from her HQ are available in both 3/4" NTSC Umatic and Super VHS media. Our local TV station editing bay accepts either format as an input, with the DVCAM tape being the output tape. I am trying to determine if the Super VHS tape is equivalent, better, or worse than the 3/4" tape, in terms of resolution, durability, etc. -- in other words, which tape would be best to use as the source for the DVCAM output tape. Can I get some help with this.

well although umatics have pretty much been extinct for the past decade, their quality is still SLIGHTLY better than super VHS. If it were me however, I'd just output my editing project back the the DVCAM tape and use that. By going back to 3/4" there's a greater chance of quality loss

For the best quality mp3s use EAC (exact audio copy) to rip your audio CDs and LAME to encode them. Follow this guide:
