not that I or anyone I know would ever copy a dvd... BUT. Please help me to understand this.

You rip a dvd, and the output files are bigger than a typical dvd - 4.7 GB.

so you use a dvd "shrink" program to get it to fit on a blank dvd.

ok.

WHY!!!!

1. if its too big for a normal dvd, how did it get put onto one?

2. Why can't you just duplicate a dvd - one dvd to another????

3. what kind of dvds are the companies using? really special ones?

4. DVD to DVD - why so difficult?

95% of commercial dvds are dual layer, 8.5GB. 95% of blank media purchased is singal layer media, 4.7GB. You can easily make copies without compression but dual layer media would be required and is expensive compared to singal layer. Singal layer is around $0.30 each while dual layer is $3.50+
