Are they? Or should I use the 8x media (burned at 4x) instead?
Need some input as in are there any skipping or freezing problems with these -R discs? User experiences are welcome!

Those 4x TYs can probably be overburned at 8x if you so desire .. They are great discs for a great price ..

They are among the best,if they are true taiyo yuden. Lots of fakes floating around. 8x should be no problem, depending on your burner. I can get 16x out of the Yuden000-T02 fuji and sony tys.I still keep it under 4x just to keep the possibility of errors down.

Usually slower the better so stand alone players can play them better.

Using genuine taiyo yuden media, burned slow can prevent a lot of those freezing/pixellation/and jumping issues. If a player acts up after using the slowly burned tys, then usually it is that player that is at fault. The lens may need a cleaning. Sometimes a poor quality burner is the culprit, but mostly stand alones. That's why a backup disc with playback issues should be played on many different stand alones and also the dvd-rw drive that burned it to see if they show the same exact issues.A slew of other things can also give those playback issues.

bratcher there is NO quality difference between the TYGO-1s (which is 4X) and the TYGO-2s (which are 8X) both will do a great job and is the best blank media on the market along with Verbatim.I use the TYGO-1s because they are less expenisive and I burn at 4X max. anyway

TY 4x DVD-R (TYG01s) Taiyo Yudens are great for dvd video, got thousands of these and have had NO pixellation problems/skipping/freezing that wasn't my own fault~ :) (ie. multitasking extensively/firmware hiccups/burning a little too fast- @8x overburned on my pioneer drive) :)

if you buy them from supermediastore (which is where i got mine too) you will have no problems in terms of them being "fakes"...all mine are 100% genuine from supermediastore~

good luck

I agree, and the 04's I bought a month ago would burn at 8x (accidentally found out, usually burn slower). Check the deal where supermediastore gives out free paper jackets with a bulk order. Even if you store your backups better than that, you always need something for CD's or the occasional movie for a friend!
