Do any of the local stores carry this or a re-label of Ty(DVD-R)?

What speed are you looking for?

Some of the dash 4x maxell yellowtops that say made in japan are sometimes Ty-g01,but mostly Mxl-rg02. It's getting very hard to find them. I haven't heard of any maxell or other brand name using ty-g02 other than taiyo yuden itself.

Now on the plus format,I don't know if it will help you, but the Made in Japan sony 1x-8x and fuji 8x are Yuden000-T02. These are very good media.

HP a1118x-b/athlon 64-3300+/BenQ 1650 BCDC/LG 8163B/Modded Wii/Epson-R300 and Ty Watershields!!!

Thanks saugmon. The burner is only the - format. The Toshiba standalone burner(xs34) recommends up to 8x Ty DVD-R. Funny thing is they recommend JVC 2x and 4x for -RW. Rumor is that this machine is very picky with media. I will soon find out but was just wondering about the availability of actual Ty in retail stores. Rima has a decent selection but I was going to try local first. I don't actually get the machine according to UPS until Monday. I have Maxell, Ritek, TDK to throw at it for now but was looking ahead in case of trouble. Some reports show success with Maxell. It also handles DVD-Ram but I've never dealt with that media.

Majority of those stand alone burners are picky, I know my cyberhome is.

For dash 8x tys, you're going to have to order them from Rima.com/supermedia.com/americal.com/and meritline.com for the genuine tys.

Looks like you got a good assortment to find something that it will like. All those brands you listed are have pretty good manufacturers in the dash format. When you find a media that it really likes, keep track of the MID code on it.

@ neodave

if you are REALLY REALLY lucky, the TYG02s (Taiyo Yuden 8x dvd-r) can be found under the FUJI label, BUT, MUST BE MADE IN JAPAN~ for this to hold true :)

these were available @ local best buy for me in the beginning of the year Jan. 2005, but have since disappeared off the shelves for the last couple of months~ :) my local Best Buy ONLY carries the made in taiwan now and these are NOT Taiyo Yudens (i believe they are Prodisc-which isn't even in the same category as TYs) :)

good luck in finding some...hope you are one of the lucky ones~ :)

Rima has treated me very well so I'll probably go with them. I thought about ordering from supermediastore but their resellar rating makes me leary of them. They certainly have a better price.
