I'm using a standalone Phillips recorder. I recently noticed that when i record something with it, the DVD it was recorded onto will only play on the recorder, nothing else. Ive tried all different types of media and get the same result. I use + media, it wont accept - media at all.

I use ritek as standard now with my PC burner, which i'm very happy with, but they do the same with the standalone recorder.

Can anyone shed some light on this issue? Thanks.

Thats an easy one.
If you burn onto DVD+R you need to use the "Finalise disc" feature before it will play on another machine. This prevent any further editing of the disc though so make sure you have cut -out adverts etc or other stuff you don't want before finalizing.
Note, if you use +RW disc you do not need to finalise.
What I do is use +RW all the time and if I record smoething I decide I'd like to keep , I put the disc in the P.C and burn to a DVD - or + R.

Thanks, good idea on Using DVDR with PC too. The only thing i need to know how to do now is how to finalise it. I lost the manual ages ago.

To finalize, when you have the disc in the machine and are looking at the display menu of what is on the disc, scroll up and you will have some options like erase disc (RW only) finalise disc , rename and stuff like that. Scroll to finalise and press o.k.
P.S you can probably still get a PDF file manual from the philips web site.

You said you recorded on +R discs. You can't lose data recorded on these. It's there for good. (unless you damage the disc)
