Hi guys i'm pretty new to the whole dvd burning thing. i have a NEC 3540A dvd-/+r drive for only a few weeks and already burned 8-9 dvd's, using the very much loved dvd decrypter and dvd shrink.
the only time i THOUGHT i encountered a problem was when i got that I/O error on decrypter (the DVD was Rain Man, R2 if u must know), but all it took was a good disc cleaning, and it all went smooth.

but i'm reading over the web about all those developing new copy protections, and i wonder - should i be worried?
i mean, will decrypter or other ripping programs keep updating as well as the protections and so-called blockers? will hackers ALWAYS find a way to overcome those protections?
some1 responded to one of the articles "if it can be played, it can be ripped".
is that so?

sorry if it's too long of a post for one paranoia :)

You shouldn't have to worry for a while.DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter will no longer be updated. There's a program from slysoft called AnyDVD. It is a background ripper to help DVD Shrink rip through those newer encryptions.AnyDVD is updated often. You can get the free 21 day trial here:

$30 for this program, but well worth it for ripping dvd and cd encryptions with no extra steps.

So far it is being updated quite regularly. I keep it shut down until I run into that sony arccos encryption. You'll know when you get that crc error right off the bat during the initial quick analyzation in DVD Shrink. Then you can enable AnyDVD to rip right through it.Some members have trouble when they leave AnyDVD running all the time.

I also flirt around with some of my smaller DVD-5 originals and enable AnyDVD so I can rip and burn on the fly with Nero. A lot riskier, but just screwing around out of boredom.
Nero won't pull off encryptions, but when you have AnyDVD running,no problemo!
