hi papasmarf,

Welcome to Afterdawn. I noticed you already have this thread elsewhere http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/232999. Please to maximize and get the most out of your time here please read the forum rules http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/2487 as you have multiposted which is against the rules. Also by having one thread relating to a topic it increases the amount of responses in one place so you don't get confused going back and forth. Finally I suggest you post this question in the console forum as there you will get an answer from someone who is more experienced.

to burn or not to burn that is the question

You can look at the box to determine what version psp you are buying (at least in the US it works this way). Look on the side of the box, there is a white sticker and near the top right corner it says "120V". If you look right below this, you will either see a blank line, an "A", or a "B".

If it is blank, it is a version 1.00.
If it has an A, it is a 1.50
If it has a B, it is 1.51 or higher.

Not sure what versions are being released in SA, but you could always try ebay for an older version. I believe all of the units being sold in the UK are versions 1.52, but dont quote me on that.
