Once again I apologize if these issues have been disgusted before and I just failed to see it, but is anyone else's PS2 having troubles reading the same backup discs that worked just fine before a swap or a restart?

I am using the TDK 8x dvdrs and writing them with the DVD Decrypter downloaded here at 1x speed. I was glad that by following some of the pointers found on these forums I was able to finally get a game to work; but after shutting down the system for over a hour and switching to a different backup disc X, the system had a very hard time reading it, after a few resets it was not reading at all. Right then I switched back to the disc Y that I was using earlier which worked well and it was lagging badly, so I then put in a professionally made backup game but it ran well.

At that time I decided to shut down the system for a while and after over 2 hours I turned it back on and insert the disc X that almost wasn't working at all, it worked a bit slow but the system was able to run it much better.

Is this because I did something wrong or is it the system? I guess the easiest way to by pass this problem is just to play my own backups first in one sitting and then rest the system for a few hours before I play another one, but I would think since it dose have such a big problem reading the backups I made, then wouldn't I be somewhat overworking the system by using them? If so how long should I keep the system running while playing the backups I made to prevent any overheating or burnout of the hardware? Thanks

what version PS2 do you have?
If the professional back up works, and original discs
work then it would most likely not be a lsaer problem.
Could just be a media problem or a problem with the way you
burned them.
Some helpful tips when burning:
1. try burning 8X discs at 4X
2. if you are using +R try some -R instead
3. make sure there are no programs running in the backround
when you burn a discs, things like antivirus software or anything
in your PC's system tray. Also do not use the computer when burning.
Burning takes a great deal of your working memory to do it's
thing so give it all you got.
4. try updating your burners firmware if there is a newer
version available for it.
5. if you have a slim PSTwo and a house without AC or
do not run AC to keep the house pretty cool then stick a small house
fan in front of your PSTwo and give it good air
circulation. Stand the PSTwo on end (verticle) also so that it
has less area touching another surface to heat up and stay hot.
6. if you know someone else who plays back ups on their PS2
then have them try out the discs, if they work then the burning
process is fine and it could be your system
7. always put your PS2 in standby mode before switching games
or press reset, then eject the game, then put in standby, then eject and put in the new one.

When I put in the empty disc it said on the details section that it records at 2.4x 4x and 8x, lately I have been doing it on 2.4x and it seems a bit better than the ones done on 1x. However there are still times when the system won't pick up the disc when first starting and slowdowns during the game...

also I realize I have been using DVD+R, I just got the drive a few weeks ago and don't know much at all about it, what's the difference between +R and -R? I will be picking up some DVD-Rs tomorrow and giving them a shot, thanks for your help.

Try different burn speed combinations, i prefer 4X, as it seems to me the game runs faster and smoother. I do not know of the technical difference between DVD+R and DVD-R but what i do know is that DVD-R seem to be more compatible with the different ps2 versions better than DVD+R.
