Hey guys and gals, for a 7+ GB DVD rip onto a harddrive, how much can this be compressed with DVD shrink so that no noticable quality loss can be seen in playback? I have been ripping a bunch of DVD's and wanted to shrink the file sizes a little bit for each one so that in the end I can add a few more dvds to my collection.

Thanks for any replys

If you dont mind losing the extra sound by unselecting everything but the language and editing out extras you can copy the main movie at 100% and have it on a regular DVD-5 disc. Most people familiar with the program try to do that. Personally I try not to let the slider bar go below 70% for the main movie and scrap everything untill I get there or better. So you could squeeze a few more to HD like that. Ditching the extras usually cuts the size in half itself, not to mention a slight compression for main movie.

@Sweatynip

I personally have compressed with DVD Shrink and then CloneDVD 2 Compressed it again only a portion of one of my movies and i had no loss of quality... CloneDVD compressed up to 90% and i had no issues but that because my players could handle it. So i recommend it u want to c how far u can push it try it out on a movie u dont really like but wouldn't mind testing out for compression rates and see what happens...

But i do not recommend this done with every movie just a few as Deadrum33 mentioned to lose not much quality get rid of what u really dont want like subtitles or to many audio tracks extras and so on...
