I am using TMPGEnc to convert AVI files to DVD I set the output as:

MPEG-2, NTSC, 720x480, Interlace, 29.97 fps
MPEG-1 Audio Layer II, 48000Hz, Stereo, 192kbits/sec

I set the output file to desktop/new folder. When the application finishes the output there is no visable file, no software can read an mpeg file, the file explorer cannot find it. Where did it go to? I looked in all the temp file documents and settings cause I know Win XP sometimes does weird things and deposits output in out of the way hard to find places.. but its not there. Where did it go?

If you set it to your Desktop then you should see the File on your desktop as soon as TMPGEnc starts encodeing and if it isn"t there then you know there is something wrong.....

If you have selected the "2-Pass VBR" encodeing Method then TMPGEnc will not output a File untill the first pass has been completed which takes twice as Long as it normally would if you selected CBR or CQ encodeing Methods.....

Good Luck

Evidently I had an mpeg-1 file not an AVI file. I dont know why XP will not display file extensions when it has a file association. That is a windows annoyance to have this files changed to various file associations and loose their identity.
