Okay I know how to burn PS 2 games but am not sure how to play them. From what I have read here I have to mod my ps2 first but not sure how or what to do. Can someone please point me to a website that explains what is involved in doing this?
I don't know about other people, but I have a Flip Top cover with Swap Magic 3.6 Plus from http://www.consolesource.com/ecomm/customer/product.php?productid... for $32.99US and the shipping is fast, this site is legit. You'll need to decide if you want to have a modchip inside your PS2 console or just a Flip Top. People are entitled to their own judgment and preferences, so I suggest you read more and decide which modifications you want to get.
Basically, you'll need to know what version is your PS2 console first in order for you to continue with the after market modifications.

Okay so let me get this straight. IF I buy the modchip I dont need the swap magic disc and the flip lid? Or I can use the swap magic lid and the flip disc instead and not worry about the mod chip?
yes
you either get Swap Magic and a flip top
or a mod chip
I have both and would reccomend the mod chip
if money isn't a problem.
It can just do more than Swap Magic and a good one is
upgradable through flashes released by differnt people,
depending on which chip it is
the two best chips are DMS4 Pro or Matrix Infinity
you can read up on both and what they can do at
http://www.xmodd.com If you get a mod chip i also suggest spending the extra $10
and getting a laser fix (Summone or Comsoft V4)
here are some of the advantages of mod chips:
1. you never have to rebuild games
2. it will easily play both PAL & NTSC games without any
of the screen being cut off at the bottom.
3. they have hard drive support if you want to install one.
4. no extra swapping or programs needed to use your cheat disc
like AR Max, just put in your AR Max, pick you game and codes,
then put in the back up. just like an original
5. no swapping needed, put in your back up and play
6. you can make backups of dual layer(DVD9) games on dual layer
media and a mod chip can play them, no need to shrink it down
so that it will fit on a DVD5 (single layer)
7. upgrading to new features is free, just download the newest
flash, burn to a CD and play in your PS2. When your Swap Magic has
a newer version you have to shell out more money and buy it.
Downfalls:
1. the only one i know is that INITIALLY it is more expensive
about $50 for the chip and $50 for the install, plus shipping
to get your PS2 to a reputable shop to do it. Unless you are
VERY experienced with soldering tiny wires i would not try
to install it yourself
If you have an older model (not slim) you could always
get the DMS4 EZI Pro which is a solderless chip.
Thanks for the reply Stiemy. I am experienced at soldering small cicuits, I have often replaced the blown caps on mobos before. I will get the mod chip and try that.
