DVDLabPro can do a lot including generating static frames for the use of menu designs via its "Add scense selection menu ... " option. In general, DVDLabPro can really make one's life easier, because you don't have to worry about doing the menus, croping off the frames to use as frames for chapter selection etc. Another thing that is very handy in DVDLabPro is the build-in ability to transcode your mpeg files should they become too big after your TmpgEnc operation. And you can keep transcoding your mpeg files until they are perfectly fitted into your 4.7 G DVD disk.

DVDMaestro cannot provide these same "gooddies". Its strictly an authoring package. But its more powerful than DVDLabPro in terms of just authoring DVD.

So the question is, say I choose to use DVDMaestro, what equivalent softwares out there that can transcode mpeg files, that can crop out frames, indexing chapters etc... They don't have to all be in a package like DVDLabPro. There might be a utility program out there that just transcode, or crop frames etc.

Your guidances are appreciated.
