Swap Disk DVD wont load

Hi,
I've had the swap disks for a while now, and it's been like it from the start but its gotten worse and worse until its now driving me insane!!!
My ps2 simply refuses to load the swap disk DVD unless i restart like 20 times, maybe even more!!!
My CD boots straight away I have no problems here with that. Could it be the disk? because my ps2 loads originals and the CD SMD right off, and it really puts me off playing my backups.
I am currently having to use the SMD CD disk to play my DVD backups using the method by inserting a large TOC game before loading the backup. this works fine, but i did pay £15 for these disks so would like it to do what it is meant to.

my SMD DVD is version 2.0 and CD is 3.0 - quite old i think, but should still work right?? maybe less with new games, but at least my older backups that have always worked should still work??

Is the same happening with any movies/games?
If it is, it could be your laser needing cleaned/re-aligned. Check here --> http://arstechnica.com/articles/paedia/hardware/ps2.ars
