Okay folks,

I've conquered the game, Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory. For me, the game did not work when I created an image, patched the DNAS300 file, then burned it all back. I had to rebuild the game, then inject the patched DNAS300.img file back into the final game image, then burn that with DVD Decrypter. The rebuild seemed to only reduce the entire image size by a few kilobytes, but I guess that was all that was needed for it to load and play correctly.
I'm sure most everyone by now knows what processes are required when "rebuilding a game." But, just incase a newcomer finds this, and "chaos theory" is his/her first search on this board, I will include my complete archiving method below for the game.

Tools Needed:
DVD Decrypter (download it from this forum).

CD/DVD Generator 1.20 or better version. (www.ps2nfo.com)

ISOBuster (use google to locate this)

IML2ISO (use google to locate this)

DVD_Disc_ID_Utility.zip (contains the rebuild.iso image file)

discidinsertor.zip (contains the DNAS_ID.exe, which is needed to patch a DNAS or IOP file for a game this found to have an online checker file to check the authenticity of the game. You should extract all contents of this zip file to a new folder called "DNAS_Patcher." Then, create a shortcut to the DNAS_ID.exe file, and have it saved on your desktop for convenience. You can always right click the DNAS_ID.exe file after it has been extracted, and select "send to - desktop as shortcut."

Winimage (needed to inject patched DNAS/IOP files so that the online game passes the DNAS checkpoint. (use google to locate this)

I use the Swap Magic 3.6 combo with a newly installed flip lid on my PS2 system. If you do the same, or use a key slider, then follow my steps exactly. Otherwise, when it comes to loading a game (and the image dvd I will be referring to the "game disc id finder"), use your method of loading burned media in your PS2 in place of my routine.

** Once you locate the dvd_disc_it_utility.zip file, you will want to go ahead and extract the rebuild.iso that is found inside of this zip file. Then, burn this image to a blank DVD. Label this DVD, "Game ID finder." This disc is only needed as part of your archiving means when it comes to backing up games that you can play online. It will be needed for my routine below that shows how to archive the game "Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory."

1. Insert your Swap Magic disc labeled, dvd, into your PS2. If you have a mod-chip, head on to step 2.
2. At the load-screen for Swap Magic, remove the SM disc, and insert the "game ID finder disc" that you created. If you have a mod-chip, simply insert the game ID finder disc, and load it as you would any burned media.
3. Press X, and you now see a series of numbers. There are zeroes at the moment. Make sure your original game disc is handy before proceeding to step 4.
4. If you have the new lid installed, and are using Swap Magic, keep one finger on the lids platform above the eject button, and with another finger, press and hold the eject button.
5. Remove the game ID finder disc, and insert your original game disc.
6. Let go of the eject button, remove your hand from your PS2, and the disc should start spinning.
7. Press the X again.
8. You now see a new series of numbers. Write down the 5 paired numbers for the first category "disc ID." Note: Everytime you see this "O", it's the number Zero. You will not always see a Zero, but just letting you know for future reference.
9. Power off your PS2.
10. Remove your game disc, and insert it into your dvd burner.
11. Open up DVD Decrypter.
12. Press the letter "R", or click mode/iso/read.
13. Take note of where the image file will be saved. If you want to change it's location, click on the folder icon, and select a different directory. For this routine, save it to the C drive folder. Do not save it to your desktop, because will later be creating another image using the same file name, and it will be saved to the desktop.
14. Click the cd to hard-drive button at the lower left corner.
15. The image of the game is being created.
16. Once the image is created, close DVD Decrypter.
17. Remove your game disc, and insert a blank DVD.
18. If any programs launch after inserting your blank DVD, close the program(s).
19. Open up ISObuster.
20. Click the folder icon at the top, and have it open your game's image file that you just created. It was probably named slus21137.iso or related wording.
21. You now see all of the files for the game. Write all of the file names down in the order you see them. Include the extensions for the files if any are shown, because some of the files share the same front name. Example, Videos (which is a folder), and Videos.umd, which is a file.
22. Now, double click the modules folder.
23. You should see a DNAS300.img file. This file contains an online game disc checker. This file has to be patched so that it passes the DNAS checker when going online. Click this file one time so that it is highlighted. Then...
A. Right click that file,
B. Left click on Extract file.
C. Save this file in a new folder called "needs_patching."
D. Okay, the extaction should have been a blink of the eye.
E. Click the "up arrow" near the top to return to the main folder of the game.
F. Press Cntrl-A. All files are now highlighted. Right click the first one, and select "extract files." This time, dump the files into a new folder called "iso_rebuilt_files."
G. The extaction can take a while depending on how fast your machine is. Patience is needed here.
24. Once all files have been extracted, use the My Computer icon, and open up your "iso_rebuilt_files" folder. You should see all of the game files there. Minimize that folder to the tray bar.
25. Close ISObuster.
26. Recall that we extacted the DNAS300.img file to the "needs_patching" folder. Double click the Disc_id icon.
27. A small window appeared. Click the "open DNAS" file, locate your "needs_patching" folder, and double click the dnas300.img file. If you want to know how I knew it needed patching, click the scan button now. It just told you "routine found." Otherwise, you would have to insert the original game disc again, and have it open all DNAS and IOP files you find, scan them, and take note of the one(s) it said "routine found." Otherwise, it would say "not compatible, or no DNAS used."
28. There are five boxes on this window. Type in the 5 paired numbers you wrote down from your television screen ealier. Afterwards, click "patch." You should see "file successfully patched." We will return to this file later. Close the Disc_ID program.
29. It's time to rebuild the files you extracted with ISObuster. Open up CD/DVD Generator. Also, bring up your "iso_rebuilt_files" window as well. You should see both windows now on your screen.
30. Looking at your list of game files you wrote down (20 files all together), click and drag, one-at-a-time, the game files from the iso_rebuilt_files folder to the CD/DVD Gen's right white box, in the order your wrote them down. When you are done, look at the very very bottom of the CD/DVD gen window. You should see the number 20 there. This lets you know you didn't miss any files, since I've already told you there are 20 files all together to copy over.
31. Click the Volume button at the upper left corner. In the first box, put in SLUS (if you have the USA Version), or SLES (if you have the Pal version.). Next, in the 2nd box, put in the numbers found next to this file that you wrote down. This is not the number from the tv, but from the list of game files you wrote down. Example: Slus211.37. You would key in this: 21137 (with no decimal point).
32. In the Producer box, type in: Playstation.
33. Click the Record button at the top.
34. Save the file on your desktop, and name it slus21137, or sles21137 (depending upon your version and number).
35. You should then get 2 errors. Click OK for both of them.
36. Click File/Export Image. Give it the same file name, and click save/okay.
37. You should see the flashing word "recording." Just wait this out. The program is creating multiple .iml files, which will be put together in the next step.
38. Once the recording is done, close CD/DVD Gen. Open up IML2ISO. Click the 3-dotted button you see next to the 2nd box. Double click the first .iml file you see (you may only see one in this window). If you see more than one, only select the one with no number, or with the lowest number).
39. To the left of this program, click start. If asked to save the file, save it as slus21137 or sles21137, and save it on your desktop (not the same directory that you first created the game's image with DVD Decrypter). It should just save the new image where it found the .iml file it loaded.
40. Now, you have a rebuilt image of the game. Seems like a lot of steps, but it normally only takes about 30 minutes, if that. If this game was not online playable, you could simply burn the newly created image back to DVD with DVD Decryptor, then play your game. Also, you could have left out the step to where we extracted the DNAS300 file.

But, since this game in particular is online playable, and we patched a DNAS file earlier, we need to inject that file into the game's final image.
41. Open up Winimage. Have it open up the final image file you just created of the game using IML2ISO.
42. You now see all of the game files again. Recall that we extracted the DNAS300.img file earlier. It was hiding in the Modules folder. We then patched that file after extracting it. It's time to inject that patched file into this image.
43. Double click the modules folder that you see. Now, you see the DNAS300.img file. Click File/Inject, and open up your "needs_patching" folder. There, you see the DNAS300.img file all by itself, and we've already patched it via steps 27 and 28. Double click that file.
A. You get a warning message to overwrite file.
B. Click "yes."
44. Okay, you are done. Close Winimage. The final image of the game was instantly updated. You can now open DVD Decrypter, and burn this image to disc.
A. Open DVD Decryptor.
B. Press W, or click mode/iso/write
C. For the source file, click the folder icon, and point to the
image file you created and saved to your desktop.
D. Click the drive-to-CD button at the bottom.
45. Go play your game and Enjoy!!!

** Don't forget to go back and open the folders: needs_patching, iso_rebuilt_files. Delete the contents of those folders. Also, delete both game images you created. Finally, delete all of the .iml files found on your desktop. This gives you back your hard-drive space.

Glad to be of help,

Digital9x.

I just copied and burned the game with DVD Decrypter. It works perfectly. I don't play online though. Heh, that's a lot of steps. If I didn't have dial up, then I would play online, but oh well.

Thanks,

I wasn't lucky enough for the simple, rip, patch, and burn again steps. But, I'm glad it works. For those that can't do it the short way, well, here's the in depth method.
