What is ASPI? I will tell you, it is a four letter word! I have spent hours trying to reinstall it post reinstalling XP. It has four files, only two of which I am able to update.
How can I get this to work? I have never had such a hard time updating a driver.
The download file was from the Adaptec site.

You should be able to copy the aspi file directly to your system32 file. This is where it needs to go.

First of all, Thanks for the advice :) I am sorry to say though that it did not work. Should I reinstall XP again? And then try to update the driver before doing anything else? The last time I reinstalled XP I got all the MS updates first.

Had same probs myself, if you do not have scsi devices the adaptec aspi will not install properly. try using Force Aspi available from this site:
www.afterdawn.com/software/cdr_software/ cdr_tools/frcaspi.cfm
This shud sort out yr probs

I Don't recommand Force ASPI anymore, it's rather patheticly old, not to mention that Adaptec has finally heard the calls of the users who think their latest ASPI is crap, and have released a 4.60 Build 1021 package for XP

Seems like nobody is listening to what I say, I specificly told you to get ASPI v4.60 Build 1021.
What did you do ? you download v4.7.1, now why did you do that ? there was a reason I specificly said it, newer versions are known to cause problems.
Newer does NOT always mean Better! get v4.60 Build 1021, install it, and everything will work fine!
