help with installing a dms4 pro ezi into v9 ps2

sorry if something similar has been asked already, but i'm having problems get this chip to work.

i've connected all the cables as it says in the manual (using the dms manual v1.4) but the ps2 won't power up at all now.

i've tried reseating all the ribbon cables and the dsp chip.

whilst opening it up i also broke one end of the brown clip (mb side) that holds the controller ribbon cable. would the controller cable being slightly loose stop the ps2 powering up?

i've taped it over, will that do or can i find a new brown clip thingy from somewhere?

how should i proceed from here?

a) get a plug for the test pcb and see what that shows.
b) give it to a pro to fit correctly.
c) shoot myself in the foot for thinking a solderless chip would be easy to install.

if you needs pics of any parts of the motherboard, i can post them up tomorrow.

any help would be much appeciated.
