Hi,

I got someone professional to chip my PS2 2 weeks ago. He put a Matrix chip with a v1.38 BIOS.

It was working fine, playing all the backups I tried on it until I tried my FIFA 2005. It didn't work, showing me the "please insert a playstation or playstation 2 disk" red screen.

I assumed that it was because it needed the latest BIOS so I downloaded v1.54, I installed as per the instructions and it seemed to have worked.

I proceeded to put FIFA 2005 into the drive and it showed the "please insert a playstation or playstation 2 disk" screen again. Perplexed, I thought I would just try another backup but still no luck the same screen showed up. This was a game that was previously working when I was using V1.38 BIOS.

It now does this for every PS2 game backup I try.
Original games still work fine however so I'm pretty sure the laser is OK.

One other thing I have noticed is that if I switch the PS2 off at the switch at the back and then switch it back on again, a Matrix splash screen (with an upside-down 'i') appears and doesn't do anything - it won't go away until I press the reset button (and then it's back to the "please insert a playstation or playstation 2 disk" message again).

I since tried re-flashing with a copy of the 1.38 BIOS that I downloaded from infinitymod.com but the same "please insert a playstation or playstation 2 disk" message comes up again even with just that.

Any idea how I can get it working again?

Sounds like you have a clone Matrix Infinity, i.e. the Mobo Chip. Do a search at the top and i'm sure you'll find a way to fix this problem.

How cheap are these clone / fake chips?

It came with a 12 month warranty and he charged me £50 (about $80 US) to install and told me I was getting a Matrix Infinity so I thought it wasn't too bad a deal but when I go back there I will give him a piece of my mind.

I asked on another PS2 forum and they tolds me that the BIOS upgrade I tried would have probably fried the fake chip.

Hi guys,
did you manage to get this working?
I have the same problem, I bought mine from a retailer who claims it's a real Matrix Infinity SE but I have the exact same problem as djginge2!?!?!?

Please help, I tried searching but didn't find any answers.

Hi djginge2, hi laxafer,
fist of all do you still see a infinity logo under your Playstation logo while booting a original game?
If so I had a very similar problem, I installed an infinity v1.38, wanted to flash it to v1.54 but got a flashing failed error, solved this by flashing first to 1.5 and then to 1.54 and pressing start *before* the "press start to flash screen appeared" (sounds maybe strange, but worked)
I also see the infinity logo with the "upside down I"** before booting, mine disapears normally after a few seconds, if I test more games in a row it somtimes decides to stay as you describe, turning off the ps2, calm down ;) and turn it on after a few minutes solved the issue every time for me...
BTW my system is a PAL v3 ps2

Hope this helps,
Alex

** the logo can be turned off in the chip config, maybe your distributor did this for you, and after flashing the "defaults" were loaded...

Hey laxafer, Matrix Infinity SE is a clone, please when you order these premods or installation services make sure your dealer use authenic Matrix Infinity unless you want a clone because its cheaper. You will not get all the features and you will not be about to upgrade the firmware.
