sorry if this has been posted already, but i have an old ps2 and it is mod-chipped recently i have been getting read error's and some days it will play games and others it won't.
This guide has detail and it also has photos to show you the cleaning process. I have used this guide before and It proved to be quite easy thanks to the guide.
Just watch out when your taking out the screws and taking it apart. There is a silver cable, which if split cuts the power supply, but don't worry, it can be fixed!

Yeah I sure as hell wouldnt buy one either. Sony were ordered to fix them if they ever went dodgy. But you've got your machine modded, so lol. Its chipped and the warranty stivker is split so, looks like it's upto you. It isn't too hard, just watch it, it is verrry delicate.
