The whole DNA$ disc ID patching thing?...I think it's amazing that people have figured out how to do this complicated stuff - they definitely get my respect for knowing what they're doing...

But, and call me paranoid, at the risk of being permanently banned from Sony's servers, I'm trying to determine whether it's really worth it...Sure, I'd like to be able to play b/u games online like everyone else, but I wouldn't want to get banned...

I'm guessing people who are in favor of this would probably make the following two points:

1) There are hundreds of thousands of disc ID combinations that can be made for every game, so the odds of being online with someone who's got the same ID at the same time is not likely (although it is technically possible).

2) In the worst case scenario, I've read you can change information about your PS2 so that the Sony servers don't recognize it as being banned and allows you to get on?...I don't know the first thing about that, but it sounds like a pain in the @ss for one thing...

Happy to hear any thoughts...If I haven't mentioned already, although I've backed up many games, I've never patched disc IDs (namely because I never really knew how)...And now that I've read some guides, I guess I'd be able to do it, but first I just wanted to see what everyone's opinion is regarding this matter...

i have been playing backups online for a year now with no problems i wouldnt worry.... and when sony bans you its only for a few days dont worry lol

it's easier to use your original to lessen the chance of being banned. if you have it.

their is no way you can get banned if you use the last 6 numbers from an origanal copy and the fist 4 from a differnt game. why do you think people post id's like this xx xx 01 70 a4 ? the only reason playstation would ban you is if some one else was online at the same time with the same dnas id so yea ur the noob lol

you keep missing the point. why bother with all that? just use your original for online play if ya got one
