Because DVD Shrink does not have a burning engine.

However, it can use a third party program such as Nero to burn.

Its cause your drive only supports +R/+RW media, not -R/-RW media. Thats why it won't read the -R media you have been trying.

Free up some system memory. All of those icons next to your clock, right click them and exit.

Then look at my post above to see why you cannot use DVD-R/RW media. Yes, they are different than CD-R.

Phantom11 that hp dvd burner that u have burns all its DVD+R and dvd+rw(it does this on its own) under the dvd-rom format so that it can play on all types of dvd players. i had that burner up until about three months ago and the reason i got rid of it was because it stop reading my burn dvds and the dvds that it burned would all the sudden have problems reading on the same dvd players that it use to work on. just though i would share my story about that burner with u cuz yours maybe be starting to do the samething.

Any Dvd burner can burn a Cd-r there is no + format for a Cd

only thing I can suggest is you maybe able to upgrade your firmware for your DVD burner.. There maybe a firmware for it that allows you to set the Booktype on DVD+R discs.. if you set the book type to DVD-Rom before burning.. Any Dvd player should be able to read it because it will think the disc is a DVD ROM (Normal DVD)

You can check your Firmware in DVD Decrypter by going too tools drive look for firmware updates. It will bring you to a web page of updates available for your burner and you maybe able to find a firmware that will let you set the booktype to DVD-Rom

I just want to say to all who posted "Thanks" and I appreciate your input and time. Sorry I didn't reply sooner but I live in Houston and we just had bad weather. We just doge a bullet...

Well, I updated neo and still didn't work but I'm not sure about Updating my firmware because of what is posted on the site.

"These pages are only for advanced users. Bad flashing could destroy your drive definitively. Read carefully the installation notes of your firmware before you upgrade. The Firmware Page and the drive manufacturer can't be responsible on REMEMBER: This is at your own risk!!!!"

I just don't want to take that chance...

I guess I'll keep using DVD+R or buy a DVD that can burn both types if there is one that can do that?

To redice what dvd did you buy 4 ur pc? To all that read this which DVD is the best 4 PC?

I would continue to use +R media (That is all I use). You can set the "Booktype" to "DVD-ROM" if your burner supports booktyping. A "Booktype" DVD+R is more compatible than -R, commercial DVD's are booktyped "DVD-ROM".

If you are going to get one, I would recommend the NEC 3450A. I have the NEC 3520A, which is the former model of the 3540A. It will burn both - and + media. It also supports changing the "Booktype". I bought the 3520A for around $50 US dollars. You can get the 3540A at newegg.com for $39.99 + $4.00 shipping (which is a heck of a deal). - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16827152046

I recommend Verbatim DataLife brand media or Taiyo Yuden brand media. - http://meritline.com/dvd-r-blank-media-1.html

do u mean what kind of dvd burner did i replace the hp 300 that i had or do u mean which kind of dvd disc did i use for it?

Also the hp 300 dvd burner burns the dvd+r disc under the dvd-rom format on its own for backward compatible on more dvd players. so there is no need to booktype the dvd+r disc to dvd-rom.

Its setting the booktype for you. Unless your burner can "Press" the DVD and not burn it?
