backups running slow. HDD the cause?

so i just made a back up of the new katamari game. its loading really slow. i asked around and was told that i should remove my hard drive when playing backup (and more to the point anything that doesn't require the hard drive). i've never really noticed that great a slow down in load time before but with this and another back up i recently made i do.
please fill me in on this

on another note. i was also told about putting ISOs onto the hardrive and playing from there. are there links to other forums that could school me on how this is done? what are the positives and negatives of this?

What quality of disks are you using it makes a huge difference to the quality of the game including load time

is verbatim any good or not

i never had that brand befor the verbatim

Personally, I have found Verbatims to be crap as far as PS2 backups go. Very few of them worked period and if they did, they were so slow, and the sound would stop synching with the video. Switched to Taiyo Yudens and no problems now.
