Hi guys. This one has me stumped. Trying to burn the longest yard with no luck. I tried using DVD Shrink. Then I tried DVD Decrypter. Lastly, I tried Clone DVD 2 with Any DVD running. It reads the disc fine and then writes to the blank disc fine but the disc is useless once it is burned. It won't play in the PC or any DVD player and when you try to "explore" the data on the burned disc, it actually will cause "My Computer" to stop responding altogether. I'm stumped. I'm using an Atapi 16X DVD burner and Ridata 16X DVD+R discs. 3 burns and 3 coasters so far. I'm currently trying it a 4th time using some older 8X Dynex DVD+R's just to make sure it's not the discs. I'm no expert, but occasionally burn DVD's I want to keep and often rip shows from my Tivo and burn them with no difficulties. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

@leerph,

The Longest Yard is nothing special really. I ripped it with DVD Decrypter on "MODE, File F" into my hard drive smoothly, once that process is completed. I just encode/shrink with Nero Recode 2 (set my "custom" to 4360MB) and finally I backed up with Nero Burning Rom - it's working flawlessly. Believe it or not DVD Decrypter is still the "King of Ripper" - yes.... so far all of my backups was successfully ripped and decrypted by DVD Decrypter. I've heard tons and tons of members said AnyDVD is the best "decrypting/cracking" engine, which I completely agree to certain degree, but there a some (a few) have had issues using AnyDVD as well. So why don't you give DVD Decrypter a try alright.

It's kind of ironic that you've got the best decrypting (cracking) engine aka AnyDVD and yet it failed to backup properly. Humh... makes me wonder what happened there.

NOTE: few thing to look out for are: is your burner's firmware up-to-date? are you using high quality media? are you multi-tasking when burning? do you have enough memory to boost up the burning process, and how fast did you burned?

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. How about I used one of my old 8x Dynex DVD+R's and it worked perfectly. So, my drive doesn't like these new Ridata 16X +R's. Could that be a firmware problem with my drive? I have tried 5 discs and can't believe every single one of them from this new 100 pack I just bought is bad. Thanks in advance for all the suggestions.

I thought so. Can anyone point me in the right direction to find the firmware for my drive? It is an ATAPI 16X burner. I know I can use a program to give me more info about the drive but not sure how.

What kind of dvd burner do you have? Need to know what brand and model in order for other members to help you better.

I used Nero6 Ultra with DVD43 and burned directly to dvd without any problem using TDK +R disc. I tried with RitekF1 and it failed.

You guys are awesome! I updated my firmware and problem solved! It just wouldn't work with these new 16x DVD's I bought before the upgrade. Now it works perfectly. Thanks again to all the nice people in this forum. Couldn't have done it without you.

leerph another thing just because you have 16x media DONT burn at 16x it probably will not play back on your standalone DVD player most here burn at 4X max. and some go uo to 8x and the Ritek are good disc you shouldnt have any problem with them other great blank media to consider is Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim both are the best you can get
