I have been holding off trying Double Layer burning because of the cost. Best Buy has those 15 pack Memorex DL's at $2 each. At this price I don't mind throwing some away. Are they really that bad? I plan to use Decrypter, Shrink and Nero.

Just send me your $29.99 .. The Karma that you'll receive in return will be of greater value than those Memosux discs ...

 and I'm not kidding

omg $30 to just throw away like that. a quote from my signature -

Memorex/CMC et al can't even make single layer discs that work / or that are even consistent in being crap. They fool ppl into buying them by giving a few good burns, but then generate huge amounts of traffic on sites such as this due to the hassle they cause so many ppl. And Memorex/CMC et al being let loose on dual layer media. The mind boggles..

and i'm not kidding either!!

Here are some user comments on the Memorex DL+R's:

http://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia.php?selectmedia=2869#comments

They thankfully are not CMC made...they are RITEK's....but they still have mixed reviews.

If you are really interested in trying them, make sure and save the receipt so you can return them if the don't burn well.

Please post your review if you do try them out!

I'd like to say that's good about. The ritek codes, ie hopefully there'll just be ritek to choose from, but unfortunately memorex have a track record for the widely varying disc manufacturers so I'll remain sceptical for now

From the literature I've dug up on my burner ... One of the 'cough, cough' approved discs is a 2,4x DL Memorex manufacturer code PhilipsCD2 ... A CMC clone in my opinion

*cough cough* PHILIPS SUX~ lol

i've said it before and i'll say it again, philips manufactured discs are on the SAME LEVEL as the dreaded CMC MAGs that everyone seems to despise on here, me included...

while i am STILL hesitant to even try the $2 Memorex that code out as Ritek, i would take that ANYDAY over ANYTHING Philips manufacturered/CMC MAG manufactured~ i'm also not too fond of the TDK TTG01/TTG02 media, which is THEIR OWN media...my pioneer won't even attempt to burn these crap-shoot discs @4x~

anyways, this is ALL personal preference, others may have luck w/ philips, memorex, and tdk, but i for one, will NEVER drop a dime on these garbage discs~

Recommended Media:

Taiyo Yuden 4x dvd-r TYGO1/ 8x dvd-r TYGO2/ 8x dvd+r YUDEN000T02/ 16x dvd+r YUDEN000T03
Verbatim 8x dvd+r MCC003
Verbatim dvd+r DL (MKM001)= flawless no compression backups

No Memorex here period. My vote is 2.4X - 4X Verbatim DVD+R DL - no other DL media can beat this top notch at the moment, that's all I can say.

The picture on the Memorex DL/Philips ones are totally different...but who knows! I wouldn't use them regardless, but wanted to let him know the correct(possible) code. Hopefully someone will buy a spindle and post the media ID. Unfortunately, the only way I'd buy them is if they were made by Taiyo Yuden.....and that's not gonna happen! Once they hit $1 a disc I'll start testing them. RITEK is at the bottom of my usable blank list...meaning I will use them as a last resort.

Let me get this straight ... You'd take CMC Mag Corp and Philips crapola over Ritek? Okay ...

.. And if you will only buy Taiyo Yuden DL discs, well I guess you won't be buying any DL media for a while ..

catfreak-No RITEK is my last resort media therefore the word usable. CMC, Prodisc, Philips, et al. are not on my usable blank list. The only way I would use Memorex (brand name not a manufacturer) is if they switched to using TY....and that's not gonna happen! I have no real interest in DL discs at the current prices, but am curious to test them eventually. I'd test RITEK's at $1 each but no higher. Would gladly try the Verb DL's at $2 ea though!

Usable media list (for me):
1)TY
2)Verbatim
3)RITEK/RICOHJPN (last resort)

I used genuine Yuden 8X DVD+R (Made In Japan) Silver Inkjet printable dvd, and my printer is an Epson R300 Inkjet Photo Printer.
