Memorex DVD Drive burn speed lower than 6x?

I am having a hard time burning PS2 games at a speed lower than 6x. I am concerned with this because I've noticed increased load times in games where they shouldn't exist. I am using a Memorex DVD 16+/-DL4RWID2 drive with Memorex 16x CD-Rs. I've also done the same thing with +Rs.

Memorex isnt said to be good media to burn to. I recommend you go get yourself some Verbitams and that'll help you out!

get yourself some yaiyo yudens (real from rima.com)

that burner is a liteon 1673 or 1693s rebadge so it's good now get that media

Why is it that my friends burns on memorex DVDs work just fine but mine have that slow load time problem? I am reluctant to go drop another 20 bucks on DVDs only to end up with 100 DVD-Rs (or +Rs) that I have barely a use for . . .

i agree with the others, Memorex are crap
your friend is just lucky, al least for now until
his PS2 laser has to work so hard reading that crappy
media that it burns out. Not saying it will burn right out but
it does put more stress on it then if you use goo media.
Philips, TDK, Verbatim, Ritek G04,
and to correct the above Taiyo Yudens
they are some of the better one's. I would suggest buying small
pack sizes like 3 packs until you find what works best for you.
get DVD-R 8X speed DVD's and use DVD Decrypter to burn them at 4X
I just got some Philips DVD-R at Circuit City
they were on sale yesterday for $7.98 for a 25 pack.
