I've just come across a problem with v.1.5.1 so I got the newer v.1.6.1 and it didn't help! Actually the problem is two-fold.

When processing my movies in VirtualDub almost always I get a message telling me that there is an improper VBR audio coding and that I need to save the entire audio as a WAV file and recompress it at a CBR bitrate to fix the out-of-sync audio.

Well how do I do this properly as it takes me ages to figure it all out and, using TMPGEnc, encode everything to .mpv and .mp2 files ready for authoring.

I'm also having another audio problem with AC3. I purposefully found the new AC3 codec and installed it, rebooted and still no change.
The error message I keep getting is either: No audio decompressor could be found to decompress the source audio format. (source format tag:2000)

Or something like the video being divided by 0.

Is there anyone out there who knows how to help me with these things. I don't think it's a matter of upgrading anything. It might be the settings I've chosen, I don't know. So if someone has a working method to fix these things please get in touch asap.

VirtualDub requires an ACM decompressor for audio. You probably installed a directshow decoder filter. If you are converting to DVD though I would suggest that you reuse the audio.

VirtualDubMod is able to handle VBR mp3 audio, however it sounds like you want to decompress it anyway.

I'm not that clued up when it comes to codecs etc so I searched for an ACM codec instead of an AC3 codec and found they were the same thing. I ended up downloading and installing the same codec that I mentioned in the first post. So this didn't change anything I still get the same error message in VirtualDub even though I HAVE manually install an AC3 codec myself.

Any ideas?

Oh and just to make matters worse windows Media Player plays the problem file just fine. So what's going on?

Windows Media Player uses directshow decoders.

Just to be clear you installed this http://fcchandler.home.comcast.net/AC3ACM/ ?

If so then you should be able to decode AC3 via ACM, also you should see AC3 ACM under the compression list.
