Program shuts down before encoding

Hi!

I have a strange problem for you all.

I first started out with 1Click DVD to make back-ups of some of my dvds. I was able to convert 2 files from a dvd to avi with no problem whatsoever. Yesterday, I went to finish copying the rest of the files and it was a no go. The first set of error messages said that it couldn't read from E:/.... and MPEG2Dec: error during decoder initialisation.

The next set (if the previous error didn't rear its head) said that the program encountered an error and will be shut down. Great!

So I tried out a few other similar programs and it was the same thing. I installed Xilsoft DVD Ripper and as soon as I go to trhe settings drop-down box to change the output codec, it also encounters a problem and shuts down.

What gives? I didn't have this problem two days ago, all was fine and dandy.

I am running a Dell dimension P4 2.8ghz with a BenQ DW1625 DVDRW, Win XP Pro.

Any and add help would be greatly appreciated!!!
