question about tool d. does it actually press the switch down located inside slim ps2? or does it just cover the switch??

well let me ask you this why do you need tool d? why can't I just take a piece of plastic and glue it over switch to hold switch down or even tape it down? what is so special about tool d? I have already tried to press the switch down and they disc won't spin ...
