Ive been looking in all of the forums and have been SOL.

I know that SwapMagic will not boot PS1 disks (im running 3.6). I also know that there are some big brains that might be able to solve this problem.

I am running SwapMagic 3.6 on a PStwo (slim). Burning with Alcohol 120 and Decrypter on Verbatims (DVD) and Maxell (CD-R).

Is there a way to patch a PS1 onto a DVD or something like that?

As far as i know, you can get breaker pro, it's supposed to be like the swapmagic for psx games. That's about all you could do, since there's no way you can get swapmagic to run a psx game, ever.

Don't know about patching Castlevania SOTN: onto a DVD, but Daniel is right, the sure way to boot it is to get Breaker Pro. For more info check here: http://breakerpro.com/ For GOOD instructions on how to use it check my FAQ here: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/230987 I have booted over 40 backups successfully, Castlevania SOTN included, the only failure being Legend of Mana. Oh well 40/41 ain't bad. It's an excellent product and I am very happy with it. Beat's the hell outta playing backups thru on emulator. Check it out!

Alright, Im going to pick up Breaker Pro. Do I just burn with Alcohol 120 or Decrypter like any other PS2 disc, or is there something else special for PS1 backups?

You won't regret it bug. It takes a little practice, but my back up of Castlevania SOTN runs perfectly, so you shouldn't have any issues. For a myriad of ways to burn PSX games check here: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/236278 These all work for whatever program you decide to use.

I need help w. nearly the same subject as bug793. I've got BreakerPro v.1.1, but can't get my Castlevania: SOTN (PAL) backup to work on my PS2 (old version). I've tried burning with the parameters specified by Tokijin (Alcohol; DAO/SAO, 4x burn), but haven't been succesful in getting the backup to work. Here are my questions:

1. Does it matter whether you burn on CD-R or CD-RW?
2. The set is .css / .sub / .img, and I've been using Alcohol20%; should I use another program?
3. Does libcrypt require me to do something additional?

Finally, 4: How long does it take for breaker pro to boot the cd; have I just been too impatient?

Thank you very much!

A couple things, first off bug those guides I linked you to were for burning PSone (PSX) games, not for PS2 games. Perhaps I should've made that clearer. I have the NTSC version of Castlevania:SOTN. I also have an NTSC v.4 PS2. Bug, Nikolas do you have an NTSC or PAL PS2? The PAL SOTN is not mod protected so don't worry about Libcrypt, it isn't the issue. My original is scratched to hell so I downloaded a .bin version of SOTN. The .bin suffix means it was ripped with CDRWIN. You can find a torrent for the NTSC version, which runs fine with Breaker Pro, by using Google. Nikolas it does matter if you use CD-R's or CD-RW's. Older versions of the PS2 have a difficult time with CD-RW's or DVD-RW's. Try burning it on a quality CD-R (Memorex works fine for me-okay maybe not quality, but it gets the job done lol). I have booted 50 or so games with Breaker Pro, most of them with Alcohol %120 on the settings I specifed. The exception being mod protected games that require PPF patching must be burned with CDRWIN. Try toggling the video mode on Breaker Pro to off or NTSC. That can make a difference with some games. It sounds like the image file you downloaded is originally a clone cd file, though I don't recongnize the .css extension. Breaker Pro will boot in 10 to 20 seconds usually. The only game I have'nt been able to boot is Legend of Mana and that is because of a crappy clone cd rip by whoever created the torrent. That and Wild Arms freezes after I start a new game. Try burning the .img file with Alcohol. If that doesn't work try Nero. If all else fails find a torrent for the NTSC version of SOTN. I guarantee there won't be any problems with that one. Also make sure you right click the file in Alcohol and select Image Burning Wizard, simply creating a data CD won't work. Most of the time these things are a burning issue.

Thanks Tokijin! I actually found out another thing about my image file; it was pretty corrupted (some 138 low to medium level errors). But I'll try out your suggestions! Thanks again :)

bug793, the way i play ps1 backups on my slim ps2 with swap magic 3.6 is with the fliptop, i use a magic key (straw method).. You put an original PS1 game in your PS2 ( I use Twisted Metal 2 ) and with your fliptop open wait for the disc to slow down and rite when it does take the PS1 Orignal Game off and swap it with the PS1 backup.. the playstation logo screen will come up and the disc will load.

I got this from a thread a while back and it works like a charm with every game ive tried (like 10 backups)... i dont remember who the person is or i would credit him/her.

Yeah that is horrible for the PSX original you use to switch it. Basically you'd want to use a game you don't care about or a demo. This isn't recommended, just use Breaker Pro, a MC exploit, or a modchip to boot PSX backups. Bug did you ever order Breaker Pro and get SOTN working?

The way i do it is when i take the PS1 original off i hold the the spinner (the thing u clip the cd/dvd on) with a little pressure with my finger and take it off, doesnt scratch the disc at all, and then put my finger through the middle off the PS1 backup and hold the spinner down and clip the cd on, doesnt scratch any of the discs.. and it doesnt even matter how long u take to swap it after the original is off and the laser is reading, i tried waiting like 20 seconds still works. Ive booted the same psx backup (tekken 2) over 10 and lots of other games ive tested all work. My ps2 isnt any slower in ps2 games/online games.

Im not gonna bother with the MC Exploit because this works perfect for me.

Good deal. If it doesn't scratch the disks and works with Swap Magic CD, I might have to include it in my FAQ. Have you booted games over 640MB's with this? That's the limit the Swap Magic CD can boot without the use of Breaker Pro as a TOC disk.

I have the iso for medal of honor underground on my comp thats over 640 mb so i will burn that and tell you if it works. You dont need the swap magic disc just a magic key or fliptop.

Oh okay I gotcha, this is just a variation of the "knife trick" which people use on the Fat PS2. This just works for PSX backups on the slim. Interesting stuff. Your backup over 640 MB's will work, I thought you were using Swap Magic CD to load your PSX backups.

Yelp! I know I might be out of line here and I apologize, but I can't seem to get a hold of an active Castlevania: Chronicles torrent anywhere. I also know this is only vaguely relevant to the topic of this thread, but I'm desperate! It's an old game and can't be bought anywhere, and ... :/

Well, if anyone can help then I'm much obliged :)

I just found the Castlevania SOTN Torrent file that is NTSC US version. On my playstation, I have a mod chip I got a long time ago, and I'm not really sure what it is. It was soldered to my PS. It was a rare file so I burned the image to a CD using Nero, but when I put it in my PS it acts like the mod chip isn't working. The screen keeps on flickering and there seems to be no color. The mod chip is still working because I played a burned game in it and it works fine still. Any suggestions?

You are playing the PAL version on an NTSC PS2 or vice versa. You need to patch the game to the appropriate video format. You use a tool called PPFomatic to patch the game.

Then you'd need to download the patch: http://www.megagames.com/psx/psx_patches.shtml
Then you patch it with PPFomatic: http://www.megagames.com/psx/psx_ppf.shtml#PPF-O-Matic
Then you burn it to CD-R with CDRWIN: http://goldenhawk.com/
PPF and CDRWIN tutorial: http://www.go.to/psxcplist

Tokijin, you seem to be the one with the answers!! Thank you, you rock!
It's working now. I ended up using Nero, but it works fine. The audio is a little jumpy, but I think it's because my playstation is getting older.

Thanks again
