Hi-

sorry for the newbie question but it should be an easy one. I'm looking to rip my entire dvd library to my hard drive. My questions are- #1. what is the best software to do this with? keep in mind, when I rip them, I want to be able to view them on the computer at any time without loss of quality. #2. Is there a way to store them on my HD as smaller files? If each movie is 4+ gigs, then that will add up fast. I basically want to have all of my movies on my computer and whenever I want to watch one- I can retore it to it's original size and quality, if that makes sense. If you can point me in the right direction as far as if it's possible and what software to use, I can do most of the research myself. Thanks in advance for your help!

all i gotta ask is...why? why backup all your dvds onto your hd? if you already have the dvds, why waste that much disk space putting dvds you already have on your comp...any ways to answer your question, simply use DVD Shrink or DVD Decrypter or clone dvd 2, but if you want 100% quality you will not be able to rip the entire dvd, simply rip the movie only...this is easily done with clone dvd 2

I'd like to recommend a wonderful DVD ripper to you. It comes with a tutorial as well, which is most helpful! And the free download lets you rip 10 minutes at a time. Which means, you can use it over and over again for all the clips you need for free, as long as you're not wanting more than ten minutes at a time, and you're not wanting the whole movie. Perfect for music vids. If you want to purchase it, it's only about $35. Not very expensive.

Here's the link:

DivX.htm" class="korostus" target="_blank">http://www.aoamedia.com/dvd-to-DivX.htm

It's called AoA DVD ripper.

You'll have to download the video codecs "DivX" and "Xvid".
The link I gave you has the tutorial on it, and it's so simple. You can rip from your DVD in 3 easy steps!!! Scroll down to find it.

Once your movies are saved in DivX format, which is just a simple video format, you'll be able to work with it in Movie Maker and watch it on Windows Media Player. When you save it on Movie Maker, it automatically saves your work to a .wmv file to view.

**PLEASE NOTE: Just a suggestion, but when you are on step #2 "AVI settings" I suggest you enter the "configure" window, and adjust your quality to highest setting, which is #1. It doesn't take that much longer to rip, but it sure does make a difference in Hi Res.

Good luck! I hope this works for you! I sure do like this product and the easy step tutorials.

I'm just doing it for a little project I have. Thanks for the reply. What about making the files smaller after I rip them? Can't you shrink them, then make them larger when you want to view the movie? Thanks

I'm not sure how to realize it. If you got one solution, please let me know!

Copying your DVD movie to DivX format is a kind of "shrink". The size of the result file is almost 1/10 of the original movie size. So it saves much hard drive space.

Hope it helps.
