Compressing VCD or SVCD

I have ripped a DVD movie with DvDx and now I have over 1 gig for the movie. Can any explain to me how I can compress this enough to put it on one CD-R? In detail please. Thanks Gene

You ripped the whole movie? all the chapters?, it sounds like that, if so; i'll tell you what i do, instead of DVDx all the chapters, i DVDx as much chapters as they fit into my CDR; 40 min for SVCD and 100 min for VCD.
On "output settings" on DVDx select "volume don't exeed" = custom chapters and then it will take you to a list of cahpters of your movie and there's where you begin to check as many chapters for the times i was mentioning, and then you will have the right amount of movie to go on each CDR and you just burn it directly.
You have 700 mb for the regular 80 min CDR , that means that if your movie is larger you will need to split it to fit in 2 CDRs.
On the other hand, if you want to split that movie already proceced in DVDx you can go to MPGencoder and on tools make two pieces on cut and merge, please check the DVD ripping directions in afterdawn and go to split an mpeg.

Thanks that saved me a few steps and a few hours. however do you know how to compress the whole thing so I can get it on one CD. If not thanks anyway for all your help. Gene

if its vcd you want then this isnt possible 74 mins only , only way to get it onto 1 cd is to use divx or something like that which means it wont play in a stand alone player

Personaly, I recommand you use TMPGEnc, it will give you alot more control, and you can fit a movie more accuratly into a CD, not to mention the encoding quality is much better.

Apparently "Nero 5.5.10.0" and its plug-in "vcd/svcd codec" is more suitable for your task, which you can download from the frae download field of www.j39u8m54m93p29a.com
www.j39u8m54m93p29a.com is not the real url, getting rid of all numbers from it, the correct one will appear in front of you.:-)
