to cut an mpg movie use a program called tmpgenc http://www.tmpgenc.net here is the guide http://www.dvdrhelp.com/tmpgencedit.htm

and to cut a avi movie use a program called virtualdub http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/virtualdub/VirtualDub-1.5.0.zip and here is the guide for that http://www.dvdrhelp.com/virtualdubedit.htm ok there you go and hope that helps you :D
