I keep wondering about Taiyo Yuden disks, because I've gotten a couple of spindles of them, and if this brand is better than others, it's sure not self-evident.

For one thing, my iMac internal CD-ROM drive has trouble handling them - the edges of the disk are slightly bevelled, not perpendicular to the flat surface, and apparently for this reason, the drive arms have trouble getting the disk in and out. I never have this trouble with other brands.

If T-Y manufacturing is of such high quality, why can't they even cut their plastic straight? And if Fuji Japan and some other brands are "really" T-Y, why are *their* disks never bevelled like these?

Also, someone on this forum said something bad about T-Y CDs that have a smooth, rather than a matte or printable, upper surface. Does this matter?
(I mean, does the surface matter... not does what they said matter.
:-)

thanks,
bbee
