Using USB to connect HDD

Hi I just got my PS2 modded using infinity 1.4 mod chip and I'd like to know how can I use the USB port to enable an external HDD to save/backup games in the HDD without having to go through the serial port located at the back of the unit, or in other case would be possible to use a USB Pendrive??

BTW the PS2 is a Version 5 so its kindda old.. 4 years aprox.
