Dela, since you you seem to know what your talking about do you know what it means to get a message that says "Class not registered" when you try to run a video on Windows media player, is this a copyright issue ? have you ever got one of these messages ? or should I just delete the file ? of course anybody else that could help would be great.

Thanks guys, avi preview did the trick.
here is somrthing else thats got me stumded, I have the game motocross maddness 2 that I cant get working on my system, my real old computer (K62 500) used to play it fine but ever since I redid my computer (semi recently)( 1.7 gig AMD, Asus A7N8X deluxe MB, 512 RD Ram, ATI radeon 7000 AGP) I cant get the program to run and it it quits as soon as it goes into the video at the intro of the game, it goes black and it returns to the desktop, I thinking it is my video card but I`m not sure has anybody else had this problem before with this game, the video card was only a temporary card until I get the one I want (Radeon all in wonder 8500 or 9700) but am I still going to have this problem when I get my new card, anyway any help would be great.

ok the motocross prob sounds like a vidcard prob
first the obvious, drivers!
then go into yur vidcard settings and turn off all the options then one at a time start each one
also are u running xp if so right click on the short-cut to mm goto properties and in one of the tabs there is an option to run in win 98 mode try that if not get a good benchmarking/diag tool and see whats wrong

Thanks for the reply, my OS is ME so it's not a XP problem but I have put some time into the drivers issue from deleting the old drivers and updating with the latest drivers and also getting a lot of codecs but still nothing works, I started going through the process od elimination that you were refering too but still no results although I have gone through all if it because it's starting to get late and dont have the time tonight but I will go through the rest of it tomorrow.
but thanks for your your help so far, you were right on with the original problem I had with codecs that come with avi preveiw. also do you no where I can get a free ver. of TMPGEnc ?

ok here ill try to be tactful
if you were to have the cd of said program and wanted to make a copy of a cd you own, and have paid for, then you would need to get a crack for it(so ive heard);)
then i could suggest a place that would give you a crack for a program that you have already paid for in full,so really downloding a "crack" would not be ileagl to download if you own the program but just want to make a back up...everyone getting this
so i am going to suggest a reputable place like cracks.am that supply cracks for people that want to make a copy of a program they have purchased....right then you got me? this place does not allow theyre cracks to used for ileagal purposes.
thank you and i hope that noone(like a moderator)mistakes this site as an ilegal site cuz its NUT!

Ahhh, I understand now, let me just say that I did not mean to suggest that I wanted anything ileagal, I just thought that there may be another version of that type of program that the developer would release as freeware, if there is not then I will pay for it, then if in the future I should need a crack to backup a program that I have already paid for I will use your suggestion, thanks St. Dismas

dirtraxx, somehow I have the feeling you've recently installed directx 9. My "class not registered" problems started briefly after installing the unremovable dx9. I'm waiting impatiently on directx buster with dx9 removal support for win98se, since I don't feel like reinstalling windows. Btw, "class not registered" problems seem mostly to affect damaged files. Use divxfix to fix some(far from all) files.
Here's a link to the Directx buster site:
http://www.dxbuster.de/index_e.html And the forum connected to this problem, sadly in german.
