Ok, I have this game, which is pretty rare so I want to make a backup copy of it. I used a program to see what type of copy protection it had, and it said safedisc 2.8.

Anyway, I tried a few programs...first some of your basic CD copy programs, and also DiskJuggler. After using those, I always got an error saying to please insert the right CD.

Well, now I just used burnatonce to copy and burn the CD. This time, it doesn't give me the "insert correct cd" error, however, the game crashes on startup.

Now, I was wondering, does this mean that the copy of the game is correct, but that it is not burning correctly (i'm not sure if my cd-rw is a sheep 2. I looked at my device manager, and it says my CD-RW is "HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8483B" and thats all the information on it I can find).

Do you think this problem is simply just a matter of needing to use a sheep 2 burner, or is the fact that the program wont launch an indication that the copy wasn't good enough.

I haven't seen any discussion about this specific problem, but if it is a duplicate, i apologize in advance.

Try using Alcohol 120% with Safedisc 2/3 settings to create your image file, read slow.( There will be lots of read errors, this is part of the safedisc protection)

Burn the new image with Safedisc 2/3 settings,(burn slow 4x).

Go into File>Options>Emulation and check the top box>Ignore Media Type.

Try your back-up. If it does not work from the burnt back-up, your next choice would be to Alcohol 120% image drive and mount the image file you created.

Or download Daemon Tools and use its virtual drive to mount the image, or run emulation for Safedisc to try your Back-up.

Good Luck!

Thanks. I had actually tried using Alcohol 120 once, and when it was done copying, it had said that image was too big to put on a Cd *shrugs* It was my first time using it, so I may have had the settings wrong. I'll try it again, though, thanks.

What size is the image file?

Right Click it where you saved it and select properties.

If over 700MB, it won't fit on a CD-R.

You could always burn the new .mds/.mdf from Alcohol to a DVD disc (if you have a dvd burner) as a UDF datatype to at least be able to store the image off your hard drive.

The image size has actually varied from program to program. Most of the more primitive programs makes about a 275mb image. Burtatonce had an image which was around 650mb i think, and when i fooled with it before, Alcohol 120 had an image which was over 800mb I think. I'm not sure they they're different, but... And no, I don't have a DVD burner. I can use either my CD burner at home, which is something like 4 years old, so I'm not sure how well it would work, and the one here at work which is the one i just used to make the disk with burnatonce.

I was also able to create a disk which was apparently recognized, but also had the program crash on start using CloneCD. That one was on my home PC.
