Hi All. I was able to successfully downgrade my PSP, or so I thought at first. The version indeed changed to v1.50 and I was able to play homebrews again, but the next day when I turned on my PSP it went back to firmware 2.0 for some strange reason. I tried running homebrews, no go. I get the "game not started" message that you will see when trying to run homebrews at 2.0. So I decided to try downgrading again, but now my PSP cannot see the TIF file. So here is what I think is going on. My PSP is stuck in limbo and has some functionality of both 1.50 and 2.0. The reason why I think this is as follows:
1) No Web Browser - 1.5
2) Cannot see TIF files - 1.5 I think - if not, any ideas why I cant see a tif file.
3) Cant play homebrews - 2.0
4) Plays Madden without running a version changer - 2.0
So now I cant get back to full 2.0 functionality because when I try to intsall the 2.0 firmware it thinks I am already there (maybe there is a way to force it??) And I cant get back down to 1.5 becuase I can no longer see the TIF file. If anyone can think of a way to either force a re-upgrade to 2.0 or help get me back to 1.50 I would appreciate it. Not being able to execute the tif file may be the cause of my in-ability to go back to 1.50. But I'm not sure.
To avoid getting to where I am today here is exactly what I did:
1) Ran downgrade to to 1.50
2) ran some homebrews to test - all okay
3) Ran WAB version changer to go to 2.0 to play Madden
4) Played Madden
5) Formatted my memory stick to clean up all of those files left behind - this may be the culprit. I dont know if anything was needed on the memory stick after the downgrade?? If so...beware. Then its just a matter of time for others as well.
Thats it. My PSP still plays games just fine, but I'd like to get it back either to full 2.0 or 1.5
Thanks!

Formatting the memory stick might play a part there. Then again I'm playing around with our downgraded PSP as I write, and it doesn't seem to mind if I remove the MS or replace it with a blank one.
Does system information show version 2.0 or 1.50?

Very strange. You might want to check this thread at PHPHacks:
http://www.psphacks.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=6963
(the one where MPH announces the downgrader). You might also want to post there and explain your problem -- it might be (and probably is) something no one else has come across so far.
Keep us posted as well. =)

Ketola,
I was able to fix my problem.
I thought if I could fake it back to v1.50 maybe I could re-flash to version 2.0, so heres what I did:
WAB Version 2.5 would not work so I downloaded WAB v2 and it worked! Then I set my firmware back to version 1.50 with WAB v2. I tried re-running the firmware flash to update to system firmware 2.0 but it would not run off the memory stick (got the "game not started message")
So, I tried doing a network update, and that worked! I am now back to firmware version 2.0. The web browser is back and I am now able to look at GIF/TIF files.
So, now that I am back to running a full version 2.0 firmware, should I try downgrading again.......maybe later :)

Glad to hear you managed to solve the problem. =) Actually I just came back to the thread when I realized that running WAB version changer causes exactly the types of "problems" you encountered. Very strange though that v2.5 wouldn't run, and that v2.0 update didn't work either. Then again I've only ran my update off the UMD provided with the European PSP.

Look, at the moment, there is NO WAY for downgrading from version 2.5 firmware...if you're stupid enough to upgrade to 2.5 without realising the consequences then you don't deserve to be able run homebrew!

Dont be so critical and quick to judge mchalmers! I just bought my PSP and it had firmware version 2.5 already loaded, do I "deserve" to be stuck not being able to run those emulators? Hopefully as soon as someone hears how to downgrade from v2.5 they'll post on this thread.

i got a little problem, i cant get my psp to upgrade. i bought it when it had version 1.5 and upgraded it to 2.0, then downgraded it back to 1.5 with the mph downgrader. when i start the upgrade it goes to a blank screen with X and O as options and thats it, as if all the text is invisable, its wierd. can anyone whose downgraded with mph do me a favor and try upgrading and see if your getting the same results, thanks

Sorry 'scg', I think my message was misconstrued.
I meant the people who have actually chosen to upgrade the firmare, because that's their fault, rather than people who have bought them with v2.5, which is Sony's stupid fault.
I just can't see why Sony don't realise the potential of homebrew! I only bought a PSP to run homebrew, movies and music, and I bet so many other people have bought them for the exact same reason!
Again, sorry 'scg', wasn't judging people who have no choice, just those stupid enough to make the wrong one!

No problemo mchalmers. I was actually so pissed off with having 2.5 on the psp that I returned it. you gotta love stores with flexible return policies.
I gotta say www.psp-hacks.com has been the best site I've found for getting info/downloads/etc.
Once I got another psp, it had firmware 1.51 on it. On the psp-hacks site I got everything I needed to upgrade to 2.0, downgrade to 1.5, install emulators and run some games.
I guess now that i'm typing, does anyone know of a gameboy advance emulator that actually runs the games at the right speed? all the ones I've tried are pathetically slow.
