I just download a game off the the net, and now i'm trying to burn the image to a dvd and it's saying that the file has locked up some of the applications while intializing my recording device. What is that all about?

Sounds like malware. First try to close everything else and then try to open your recording software. If it still is goofy and won't start up, then try rebooting and running your recording software with nothing else open. If that doesn't work then pick up some quality anti spy apps from download.com like Ad-Aware, Spybot S&D, and Spyware doctor and update em and clean out your system.
