cdr drive will no longer read disks

I am having a lot of trouble getting my cdr drive to even recognize that there is a disk in the machine. It used to burn fine ( cds and dvds)now it says there is no disk when there is one in there. I used a lens cleaning disk and cleaned it but nothing. Anything else I can try? its actually my girlfriends computer and she thinks I broke it.
