I'm looking into getting a Pacific Digital DVD-R/RAM drive. The prices are now getting to where I can afford it.

Since backing up my hard drives is a primary function, DVD-R/RAM is the only possible choice for me. DVD-RAM drives include error correction and are (allegedly) more reliable for data storage. What I've read in this thread about problems with -RW and +RW seems to bear that out.

I'm also interested in backing up my DVD collection. I've already lost a couple of DVDs due to surface damage. (Yes. Sheer carelessness on my part.) Fortunately, they weren't expensive DVDs.

From what I've read so far, the best bet is to get a good, brand name DVD-R disc. TDK was mentioned. Any other suggestions or brands?

Also, is the DVD-R/RAM drive compatible when writing to the DVD-R discs? I have both a DVD ROM and a DVD player.

Thanks and TIA,

McG
