>>>task manager when open shuts with in a second <<<

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the situation described above is a very common symptom of a PC that has a virus, or a PC that has been infected with some of the popular Spyware / Malware programs.

Check the system thoroughly for any hidden "surprises."

also try ccleaner and the free avg antivirus; norton is a resource hog and isn't that great. try cleaning up with those two proggies if you've tried everything else.

There are thousands of discussions on the "task manager closes almost immediately" topic, and they all invariably point to some form of virus, or spyware, or malware, or hijacking.

Here is a typical thread discussing this, and some possible solutions. Note that the person reporting it, like you, also thought he was fully protected from Norton's suite of programs.

This discussion is called "Task Manager closes after .5 / 1 second."

He began it by writing:

"For some reason, all of a sudden now when I do ctrl+alt+del in WinXP task manager closes super quick. I've done a virus scan and an adaware scan, with norton and adware, both latest versions with latest updates.

Plz help"
