i'm new on this forum and also new on fixing the xbox by myself. so forgive my english and also if sometimes i sound kind of naive.
the situation with my xbox is this:
my hard drive is dead. it gives a weird sound everytime i turn it on. so i decided to check about swapping hard dvrives. i have another broken xbox. (motherboard wentd dead) so i wanted to take that one instead.
so here's where my questions start.:
1) i was reading about how you need a modchip who supports harddrive swapping. Well my xbox is a first generation xbox and alo my modchip. i really, really don;t know what modchip do i have. is there a way i can find it out? i don't have any navigation menus because of my modchip. i just start the xbox, it will star normally and then i insert any burned or original game and that's it. it runs everything but no xbox media player, or uploading games or stuff like that.
2)if i notice that my modchip will be able to support it. then i have another question? the motherboard that went dead doesn;t allow me to see any video when i turn it on. someone told me that in that case the hard drive cannot be used because you need to navigate wiht that motherboard for unlocking the drive and getting the codes (even when i think you can do it on a pc)
3) if i noticed that i can use that harddrive. what will be the metod you most recoment to swao hard drive for a new guy? i mean i have read a lot of ways but if you guys can recommend one it will be great.
specially what i was thinking was to clone my hard drvie so i can't not lose any information that i already have.
i'm apologize my self if those questions are not well written or explain my problem. but well thanks in advance for you help
