I have a ver 4 PS2 GT3 Edition PS2 with Flip Top and Swapmagic 3.3
What I now want to know about doing is installing a Hard Drive for those games that don't boot so easily using Swap Magic...
I had a 3 year old computer collecting dust that doesn't work (mother board) and I took out the 20gb that was in the computer...
The Drive is a IBM DESKSTAR 20GB ATA/IDE Drive
I know I need a PS2 Network adapter to hook the Hard Drive too
I can find one of those really cheap on Amazon.com for less than $14
What else do I need? I know I need HD Loader or HD Advance
How do I reformat the drive?
I want to see how well this will work before I spend more $ down the road and buy a bigger Hard Drive.
I'm quite happy with my Flip Top and Swap magic Discs, it's just the games that load slow (even using good media and slow burn speeds) that drive me crazy
Any info would be greatly apreciated
Biggest ? is will this HD even work?

Yes I did see something somewhere that a 10gb drive was used...
So basicly I need the network adapter and one of those 2 programs?
Now there isn't something that I can d/l and use with my Swapmagic just to test it out before I buy the programs and larger disc?
and HD Advance and HD Loader will also format my HD?
Looks like HD Advance supports 40GB+ but HD Loader according to a link on the HDLoader site will support my 20GB HD

To quote the hdloader faq *the one i linked to, that is*
Quote: Q. What are the maximum and minimum hard disk drive sizes supported by HDLoader?
A. The maximum hard disk drive size supported by HDLoader is 120gb, and the minimum size is 40gb. If you use a HDD with a capacity larger than 120GB (ie: 160GB, 200GB) then only the first 137GB will be useable.

Well Aparently thier own site can't be right if people have used 10gb drives and there is even a link on thier site that says some 10gb and 20gb drives work with HD Loader...
I dunno... I guess I'll have to try it and see.. Worst case I go get me a used 40gb or just get me a big drive

Indeed, just thought i'd re-state what i read, so you'd know there might be a risk of it not working.
But anyways, good luck, and post back here once you get it, and get the results in (or not)

Yeah I know down the road I'll want a bigger hard drive.. I just figured I have the Hard Drive sitting around and some of the games that I use with Swap Magic don't load the greatest even on the best of all media why not just take the HD and put it to some use and see if the upgrade is worth it. and I'm sure it will be
which one is better HD Loader or HD Advance anyone know the differences?
