No, I don't agree. There's plenty of encoders which are much better than Nero (TMPGenc, which is slow for MPEG-2 files (SVCD, DVD), is fast for MPEG-1 files (VCD) and (mor important) is free!
My suggestion is:
First, read http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/196299 .
Then , do:
1) do AVI --> (2*)MPEG-1 files (remember that only 80' fit in a 80' CD. The file will have to be split in 2, if the movie's length exceeds 80'). The TMPGenc command Settings__Advenced___Source Range is THE command (and remember to set 'motion search precision = very high quality (very slow)' or you'll lose video quality. More, TMPGenc supports the KVCD templates (see http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/124272 and my 'poll' in http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/126073 ) , which allows you to fit 2h video in a single 80' CD-R.
2) Author (and burn) the VCD image(s) from the MPEG-1 you just encoded with any application you want. VCDEasy is the best because supports 'chapters', Nero is very very good, VCDGear isn't very good but it's fast and free. VCDGEar 's main problem is that, if you authored it with with Nero or VCDEasy, after some seconds spent on loading the VCD with you DVD player, you can directly jump to a determined instant of your VCD, on VCDGEar you can't because it doesn't scan the mpeg you give him as input. Also, on Nero and VCDEasy you can place the 'Please Insert Disc 2' image at the end of disc 1, with VCDGear you can't.
Let me just second the suggestion for encoding with TMPGEnc. Besides being free and fast it will also give you about the best quality possible from an MPEG-1 file.
Hi..am newbie here...I have problem after copying the file to my cd-r used Nero video cd.
My file is mpg, but it has recorded as AVI file, which it does not play in VCD player.
Now I would like to convert the AVI file in my cd-r to mpg so that I can view the picture in my VCD player. Can it be done? If can, what should I do? Please do kindly advice me.
